CONVENTIONS
Prompts that appear on the screen will appear in "double quotation marks".
Click means press and release the left mouse button once quickly. Select
means press and hold down the left mouse button, move the highlight bar to
the desired item, then release the left mouse button.
ACCESSING NAVIGATOR
You must first make a graphics-based connection to the Internet through a
socket program. After making the connection, you can then run Navigator.
When you start Navigator, you will be presented with the default or home
page. In general, links will appear as buttons or icons on the page or as
underlined words. The pointer will change to a pointed hand when it is over
a defined link on the page. Links that have not been followed will appear
in blue. Links that have been followed will appear in purple. The Netscape
icon in the upper right corner of the window will animate when a document
is being downloaded. You can see the progress of the document download on
the indicator bar at the bottom.
NAVIGATOR FUNCTIONS
Below are some of the most common actions performed in Navigator. Many of these actions can be performed through toolbar icons at the top.
Follow a Link: To follow a link on a page, simply click on the desired link.
Scrolling Through a Document: To scroll up the document, click on the Up Arrow of the Scroll Bar at the right side of the window. To scroll down the document, click on the Down Arrow of the Scroll Bar at the right side of the window.
Following a Link Back/Forward: To go back to the previous document you have visited, click on the "Back" toolbar icon. You will then be presented with your previous document. To go forward to the next document you have visited, click on the "Forward" toolbar icon. You will then be presented with the next document you have visited.
Go to a Specific URL Location: To go to a specific URL location, click on the "Location" bar to mark the insertion point and type the URL address of the document or resource you wish to access.
Go to a URL Visited During the Current Navigator Session: To go to a URL that you have visited during the current Navigator session, from the "Go" menu at the top, select the desired URL toward the bottom of the menu.
Save current document's URL in Bookmark List: A bookmark list is used to store the locations of URLs you visit frequently. To save the current document's URL in your bookmark list, from the "Bookmarks" menu at the top, select "Add Bookmark".
Go to a URL in Bookmark List: To go to a URL in your bookmark list, from the "Bookmarks" menu at the top, select the desired URL.
Stop: To stop the current action, click on the "Stop" toolbar icon.
Reload: To reload the current document or resource, click on the "Reload" toolbar icon.
