The J. Anthony Blair Prize
In keeping with one of OSSA's primary aims, which is to draw new scholars
to the study of argumentation theory, the Organizing Committee offers the J.
Anthony Blair Prize.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible, the following
conditions must be met:
- The paper was written by a graduate student who had
not officially graduated before September 9, 2006.
- A paper with joint authors is eligible only if all
authors satisfy the above condition.
- The paper has been accepted for the OSSA Conference
that will take place in June 2007.
Copies of completed papers must be received by March 15, 2007. Papers
should be sent to Dr. Ralph H. Johnson:

Criteria: Papers will be judged by the following criteria:
- Clarity and organization of the paper
- Thoroughness and quality of arguments (i.e.,
problematic claims are defended or otherwise dealt with, no obvious
mistakes occur, well-known objections are answered)
- Originality of insights and significance of
implications
- Coverage of the literature (the main contending
positions are referred to)
- Relevance to the theme and interests of the
conference
Adjudication:
- Step 1: Each paper is evaluated by the
commentator chosen for the paper and by the members of the Organizing
Committee.
- Step 2: The Organizing Committee makes the
selection based on the commentators' reports and their own assessments.
Prize: A Plaque and CDN$250
The J. Anthony Blair Prize will be presented during the conference.
