HIV/AIDS in Schools

• Teachers are receptive to teaching about H/A

• In all regions there is evidence of H/A teaching, however:

  • More teaching about H/A is occurring in classes than in Nyanza or Rift Valley schools at baseline
  • Very limited co-curricular activities

• High %s are teaching strategies for abstinence

• Focus on abstinence but can discuss condoms

• Large numbers of pupils claim to be trained peer supporters (as high as 64% in some schools)
