Essay Assignment # 1

According to Kant, can metaphysics make use of a dogmatic procedure in the sense discussed at CPR-Bxxxv? What do you think he means when he talks of dogmatic procedure at CPR-B7?  According to Kant, does making use of a dogmatic procedure make you guilty of dogmatism?

Write a three to four page (900-1200 word) essay in which you answer all the above questions.  These questions should be answered in the context of discussing whether Kant thinks metaphysics can be a science. Be sure to mention the different parts of metaphysics, where knowledge may or may not be possible, and his proposed Copernican revolution in metaphysics.

The instructor marks blind, so do not place your name anywhere on the paper.  Place your student number somewhere on the first page.  A title page is not required.  Please double space with one inch margins on all four sides.  Use at least a 12 point font (I'm getting old) but nothing larger than 14 (I'm not blind).  Papers that do not follow style guidelines will receive no comments.  See the course outline for the late submission policy.
