HELLO South Channel Members
What else do cottagers talk about more
than weather? Nothing. It has been one to remember.
After a good start of cold and a couple of weeks of snow, it seemed to be working up to be a great winter wonderland. And it was for awhile. My son and his friends were able to get up for a few days in February and had a great time. I understand the Blundys and Pintwalas were up and were able to get in some skiing and snowmobiling.
One of my wishes in life is that everyone
would be able to visit their cottages in winter at least once. Growing
up it was unheard of to go over to the cottage in winter. Our little
uninsulated cabin stood silent every winter. My parents decided to go
up for a day one year. We have great pictures of my parents and my mothers
two sisters and their husbands being taken over by scoot. Wimps
:0 and then being stuck in hip high snow drifts. They didn’t
go up again until years later when the new cottage was built with a
snug wood stove.
Leo and I were to go up March
12. I couldn’t wait to go to the place my soul revives in. I especially
like walking over to the cottage from the marina. The stillness
of it all. Looking for prints of animals that cross the ice. Feeling
a bit adventurous ,pulling all we need behind us on our sleds. But by
then the warm weather had taken its toll and the ice was not safe to
cross in Menominee. I will have to wait until the ice is gone.
That didn’t take long. The ice has
been gone awhile now, apparently one of the earliest years ever.
I’m even hearing rumours of a black
fly or two. GADS! Well, maybe they will be over for the Victoria Daylong
weekend.
Well, onto SCA business. Attached is
the directory for this year. Thank you to the Blundys for putting that
together. If there are any changes you need, you can contact Pat at patblundy@hotmail.com.
Tentatively set is the SCA Annual General Meeting to be held August 1, 2010. The executive is wondering if more people would show up on another date, not as many guests or as busy ,they are thinking. Should the AGM be held on the long weekend, August 1 or to be held the following weekend, August 8. WE WOULD APPRECIATE ALL MEMBERS TO EMAIL PAUL MORGAN AT phmorgan@sympatico.ca with the date they would prefer. PLEASE INCLUDE HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD BE ATTENDING.
The South Channel Association executive is pleased with the announcement of the purchase of the Holiday Cover Marina by the Township of the Archipelago for potential landing for waste bins and assuring water access cottagers that a landing site will always be available should other marinas decide to sell out to developers.
Thank you to Claudette Chabot and Rick Zanussi for their article contributions.
A toast to the 2010 cottage season,
