From your GBA Rep.

Chabot (claudettechabot@gmail.com )
I look forward to seeing SCA members at the
94th Annual Spring Meeting, Tuesday April 13th,
6:30 PM, Leaside Memorial Gardens.
GBA’s Eighth Annual Presidents Meeting – Thanks are extended to SCA president,
Ryan Tarrant for attending
this informative meeting. All 20+ Association Presidents from along
the Bay are invited to gather with GBA Directors for an overview of
GBA files and work projects assigned to the various Committees (Governance,
Treasury, Communications, Boating and Safety, Fisheries, Lands and Forest,
Water, and Government Affairs) and to approve Financial Statements.
GBA would like to acknowledge the Kelk Company in Toronto for their
ongoing kind offering of their office space for events such as these.
GBA is invited to important tables: GBA is both pleased and honoured to be invited into conferences and steering committees on your behalf with:
Seems there is more and more stewardship work and GBA is there
to take it on.
Fisheries Committee:
URGENT
AQUACULTURE NOTICE !!! All four cage farm aquaculture companies
operating in Georgian Bay and its North Channel are now seeking renewal
of their aquaculture Licences. Go to http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-
to check out the postings and key in the Registry numbers for:
Aqua-Cage Fisheries Ltd. (EBR Registry # 010-9601)
North Wind Fisheries Ltd. (EBR Registry # 010-9361)
Cold Water Fisheries Inc. (EBR Registry # 010-9362)
Meekers Aquaculture (EBR Registry # 010-9363)
We are asking all our member Associations and as well as individual property owners and stakeholders to please prepare a Comment stating your objections to this use of public water resources. Deadlines are April 23rd for the latter 3 postings above, and April 30th for Aqua-Cage’s posting. You should have received an e-mail with the “Talking Points” listed to give you assistance in writing your EBR Response Comments. The MNR contact person to whom you direct your letter is found on the EBR posting.
The big argument from the cage farmers to the GBA aquaculture committee is there are never more than one or two comments opposing cage aquaculture when the public has opportunity to submit comments. They conclude this to mean there are no objections from property owners and others. Now is your chance to prove different and state your opinion on this misuse of our waters.
Asian
Carp: Measures are being taken to control the threat of the Asian
Carp entering the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan) through the Chicago Sanitary
and Ship Canal from the Mississippi River. Measures currently in use
are electronic barriers, enhanced DNA testing, chemical controls and
shocking the waters. GBA is calling on President Obama to close the
Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal so as to completely separate the two
water basins and ensure Asian Carp invasion does not occur. The effects
of this invasive species on the Great Lakes would be utterly devastating.
Boating and Safety Committee:
This committee is working on advice to US members and boating safety
reminders – both to be released soon.
Lands and
Forest Committee: A new one page instructive pamphlet to “Be Bear
Wise” will be inserted in the next GBA Update and will be posted to
the website. Also posted to the web will be information on Blastomycosis
Communications Committee: There is still room for advertisers within the GBA Update quarterly magazine that is highly circulated to its many members. Enquiries are welcome.
