HELLO South Channel Association Members

What a beautiful spring it was. Warm and dry. It only rained one weekend in May, of course it was when we went to open the cottage and put the docks in. I won’t complain too much. Anytime at the cottage is good time spent. We even went swimming. Short and sweet, but still got in.

It is easy to acknowledge how lucky we are to be able to enjoy the beauty of the area we cottage in. It is harder to accept that behind the scenes there are issues that have a possibility of destroying these lands. Most of these issues don’t raise their ugly heads until it’s too late. You read an article in a paper OR arrive at the cottage to have a neighbor tell you what has happened, only to think “If only I had known”. And it is then too late to quickly gather members.

It is vital that we keep our South Channel membership and executive strong. Under the umbrella of the GBA, associations are able to collectively be kept up on current events that might not get to us as a single association or a single cottager.   The people who work to keep our ideas true, work silently.  We are seldom called on to jump into action. But, the fact that we can, gives us/them the clout they need to represent you.

Please mention to your neighbours how important it is to be a proud SCA member. A strong membership gives us a strong executive. Strong executives give us strong representation to the government.

Steve Blundy has been on the executive for many years. Steve and his wife Pat have been faithful in their membership duties. Next August they will be stepping down. I thank them for their years of service and their gentle exit, giving us time to have someone fill their position. As newsletter editor, I have had to call on them quite a few times for new address changes and advice that they only know. Saved me from putting my foot in my mouth a few times.

In the newsletter I’ve outlined the Membership Chairs job description. PLEASE give some thought to this position.

Well, unto SCA business. The AGM will be held at Glenn Burney Marina again. Sunday August 1st. 9:30 am coffee and chat, 10:00 am start. Of course the fabulous complimentary lunch will follow. Mark you calendars.

Thanks to Claudette Chabot our GBA representative for the article. Claudette always keeps us up to date on the happenings of the GBA and where our money is spent. Welcome to her also for moving back into the south channel and once again being on the executive. What a trooper she is.

See you at the AGM,

Robin Argenta
