Message from the President
Welcome one and all to the summer of 2002. I hope it is a great one for
you. As I am writing this the rain is pouring, so let's hope the water levels
improve a bit this summer.
Included in this newsletter are the minutes from the AGM last summer.
Our 2002 AGM will be held once again at Glen Burney Marina (see below). Thanks
in advance to Glen Burney for allowing us to use their facilities and donating
money for a lunch for our membership. I would encourage you all to attend. Those
of you who have attended in the past you know that the AGM is more or a social
event then a meeting. Our agenda items are fairly short, and we often have
items of interest to pass along. Then, of course, you get to stay for a lovely
lunch. So I would encourage all to attend.
I attended the Deerhorn conference on your behalf in April. I was joined
by my fellow executive members, Claudette Pintwala and Steve Sprague. Rick
Zanussi was also in attendance, from the Township of the Archipelago. It was,
once again, a very interesting and productive day. We had long discussions
around the Preservation of Georgian Bay's way of life and the new "Save
the Bay" initiative. The task of this initiative is to effect positive
change within the existing governance. There is a need to mobilize public
support. The responsibility for the Eastern Georgian Bay is divided among too
many jurisdictions, resulting in the fact that no one is in charge. A
Grassroots Coalition has been formed to take advantage of three opportunities:
The Great Lakes Heritage Coastline, the Biosphere Reserve Application and Small
Growth Councils. More to come on this initiative as it gains momentum.
See you at the AGM.
