President’s Message Summer 2007

We’ve had some great weather up here this spring and I hope many of you have been able to enjoy it up here.  The May long weekend was a busy one around town.  You’ll find that Wal-Mart now has some new neighbours; Work World has moved from the mall, a Dollarama (sp?) store, and some new electronics and furniture store that only displays lease prices…weird.  So, we’re growing….maybe you’ll retire here!

Now a few updates:

Logo

Thank you all for the great response at almost 50 votes.  You’ve probably already noticed on our cover page that logo #3 squeaked in by about 5 votes.  This logo will now be used across the board, so look for it, and be proud to display it.

Website

We’re working on our mock up put together by Ray Hermiston (thank him when you see him).  He and I will work together to get it up and running soon, hopefully by the summer fun day.  I’ll tease you…you should be able to send us your cottage photos and we will post them.  They will be rotating on our home page.  Then you can make us your home page!

Membership

Last newsletter I told you that we have pledged a 10 to 20% increase this year.  Last year we had about 105 members of a possible 300, so we already have a good base.

Besides some of the executive out meeting people and signing up some new members, we are putting together a New Member package that you can give out too.  These are easily available from me, other executive members, or they will be available at Craganmor Point Resort.  So help us grow, familiarize yourself and ask us questions about the SCA if you need to, and pass it on.

Membership Recognition Signs

We have 2 reasonable quotes for these and we should have them ready sometime in June.  We will distribute them both at the Fun Day and AGM.  If you’re really anxious, email me and we’ll get them to you faster.  Displaying them will be the hard part, lol!  This may give you some incentive to install the 911 dock sign (that may help save your life) if you’ve been procrastinating.  We can’t wait to see them.

Summer Fun Day

We’ve already got some great speakers and info sessions lined up from the Township of The Archipelago and GBA.  We will again have games and fun stuff for the kids after some learning.  This year instead of so much snack food after breakfast, we will serve hot & cold drinks and some muffins.  When you arrive to sign up, we plan to hand out a coupon entitling you to a discount off of the Craganmor lunch special that we hope to call the South Channel Special.  Matt and Natalie are really helpful and we appreciate that help, so it would be great if you had lunch with the family afterwards and in turn help support their truly unique business and family

AGM

The usual fun except I have to speak more (lol Uncle Andrew)!  More great speakers expected, the all exciting raffle, great food and some serious stuff too.  We will be looking for some new executive nominations again this year, one to replace Ralph Smith who works too hard and doesn’t get to the cottage enough, and we actually have a few vacancies.  It really is a lot of fun and almost a social in itself.  I’d love to add to the already great group of people I have the pleasure of working with.  Look forward to seeing you all there.

Sorry I didn’t give you this for the logo voting but I wanted to keep it separate for

accurate counting.  I will try to remember to publish it every newsletter.

Have a great summer, look forward to meeting new people this summer and thank you for all your help and support.
