Message from the
President:
Once again, happy
anniversary to one and all.
Enclosed in this
Newsletter we once again have a contribution from a long time member, Wayne
Jefferey, reflecting on how things were when the South Channel Association
began. We still welcome other contributions, so please send us something, or
nudge the person sitting beside you. A contribution for the December newsletter
would be greatly appreciated.
The 2004 Annual
General Meeting has come and gone. Those of you in attendance can confirm that
it was a great success. Those of you who did not attend missed out on a lovely
piece of cake, in celebration of our 30th anniversary, not to
mention presentations by the OPP, Reptile Awareness Program and many others.
This annual general
meeting saw some changes in membership in our executive. Don Wheeler and
Eleanor Reed are moving on to other pursuits, and we welcome Ralph Smith Jr.,
Ryan Tarrant and Lisa Voortman to the executive.
At this, our 30th
anniversary, I would like to take the time to share my appreciation to all
members who have ever had a position on the executive. It is often a thankless
job, but we would not be celebrating our 30th anniversary without
you. So let me also take the time to recognize our current (and recent)
executive, for all of their accomplishments, participation and enthusiasm.
Don Wheeler: Retired from executive this year, but has held many positions, most
recently being vice-president. Even though he is no longer on the executive,
Don recently represented us by attending a Ward 4 meeting. Don has always been
appreciated for providing a common sense approach to finding solutions to
problems.
Eleanor Reed: Retired from Executive this year after many
years as treasurer. Eleanor was always willing to take on responsibilities. She
would often volunteer to be our representative at meetings in Toronto. Eleanor
has always been an enthusiastic participant in whatever task came her way.
Steve Blundy: Along with managing the usual membership
renewals, Steve has completed various mail outs of information in support of
our membership drive. I would also want to acknowledge Steve’s wife Pat,who has
shared much of the load with him. It was the Blundy’s who provided that great
banner (painted by their daughter) at the AGM, and who created the SCA
Anniversary magnets, along with all of their other responsibilities.
Stan Topping: Along with being the SCA’s expert on Water
Quality, Stan is always willing to step forward where ever needed, for example,
representing the SCA at meetings. Stan and his wife Carol coordinate the AGM
lunch for us (that alone is a big jo), and collect all those great raffle
prizes (another big job).
Claudette Pintwala: Claudette is the SCA’s representative on the
Georgian Bay Association. This is a huge commitment and one from which we all
benefit. Her role includes the
initiative on Aquaculture, of concern to us all.
Ed Pintwala: Ed is the SCA Treasurer. Though currently
attending university, and enrolled in the co-op program, Ed contributes his
time and abilities to the SCA, where many others would rather use their spare
time for less worthy pursuits.
Ryan Tarrant; One of our newest executive members and has
already taken initiative to boost our membership drive.
Lisa Voortman: One of our newest executive members and has
already shown great knowledge and enthusiasm for the issues of concern to the
SCA, particularly environment.
Ralph Smith Jr: One of our newest executive members and has
already attended represented us at the Ward 4/Cottager association meeting in
August.
Robin Argenta; Although not technically on the executive,
Robin does attend the occasional meeting in her capacity as Newsletter Editor.
In the past year, Robin has taken on a greater responsibility, amounting to a
lot more work, as she now does the printing, collating and mailing of all the
newsletters herself.
Thanks again one and
all
Tracy Biggar
