Dec. 2003
Dear
Cottage Neighbours,
As you know, the South Channel Association represents water access seasonal and permanent property owners in the geographical area of Georgian Bay between the Parry Island swing bridge and Amanda Island. The Association was created in 1974 to properly act in the best interest of our community and this year marks our 30 th anniversary.
In
today’s world of seemingly never ending provincial downloading , the Association has attached considerable
importance to its representative on Municipal Council. When you consider your
municipal tax now pays an ever growing percentage of health care , including
the new hospital, the new home for the aged, land based ambulance and social
housing, then we need to have capable people looking after your interests.
The
S.C.A. recommended your support for several candidates in the recent municipal
election. Thanks to you, the slate of
Rick Zanussi, Ted Christie and John Seagram were successful and our executive
will work with them as they represent us on the issues. All three are well versed to carry on the
efforts, to maintain our way of life on the Bay and manage its fragile
environmental needs.
As
you all know we continue to face significant pressures from a variety of
sources. Your Association’s executive meets on a regularly scheduled basis
providing direction to achieve results in all of your areas of concern. We were
successful last year in our membership campaign , increasing by 26 new families to 105. We will continue to build on this effort to
strengthen our voice as the future brings forth newer and unforeseen
challenges.
We
would invite you to reference the GBA web site: www.georgianbay.ca with a link to the SCA
web site to witness the updates of information on the projects that are being
undertaken for your ultimate benefit. Two-thirds of the membership fee
collected by the SCA directly supports the GBA agenda.
Your
continued membership in the SCA ensures
that you receive correspondence from
the South Channel- four issues of the South Channel Association Newsletter and the GBA Update which is a newsletter from
the GBA With these you will stay
informed and up to date on present issues and news about the Bay. We hope that you will be able to attend the South Channel Association’s annual
social gathering/general meeting held in August, 2004 and help celebrate your
association’s 30th anniversary with a free luncheon.
Please
take a moment now to send in your membership renewal formwhich has been
attached to this issue of the SCA newsletter .It is vital to renewing the
strength of our organization. Should
you have any questions or concerns you would like addressed, please e- mail me
at steve.blundy@sheridanc.on.ca
Thank
you again for sharing in safe guarding the future of our cherished South
Channel.
