Job Opportunities with the 2006 Census

Statistics Canada is recruiting people to work on the 2006 Census across the country.  People familiar with cottage areas are of particular interest, as cottages, like all other dwellings, will receive census forms which must be completed.  The Census date is May 16, and the jobs will cover contract periods from March to July.   These are not office jobs - extensive outdoor work in a variety of neighbourhoods and communities is required.  The job also includes frequent interaction with the public.

Statistics Canada conducts a national census once every five years.  On Tuesday, May 16, more than 32.5 million people in 12.7 million households across Canada will “count themselves in” as part of the 2006 Census.  In Ontario alone, Statistics Canada needs to hire about 8,000 people.

Some will be hired as Crew Leaders who will train, lead and supervise a team of approximately 8 to 15 Enumerators in conducting the enumeration for the Census. The job may also require the recruitment and selection of enumerators.   Enumerators will deliver and follow up on census questionnaires, (April to June 2006); or follow up with a respondents (May to July 2006).
