Hermiston Newsletter Volume 1 1999

Again I have been remiss in my interaction with my growing list of "relatives". However I must also point out that the majority of the email clan has likewise been extremely remiss with their forwarding of family details. I will assume that all of us can rack, this lack of interaction, up to our extremely "busy" lifestyles. So rather than bore you with our marvelous trip to Scotland where many lineages were joined together and many more were started and left in limbo or further bore you about our new cousins the Hermistones in Mass., or my finding of the Ray Hermeston family I had met in the 1960's in Fort William, ON and finally found a son last week in California... which led to finding the entire family in the United States! I will, from now on, call all of us Hermistons I guess because I'm collecting the data and my name is spelled that way. Please do not take offense but the list of current spellings is on the rise. I will keep the actual data ..in the spelling that I find ...it is always properly recorded in my Hermiston database which operates in the background and none of you ever see. That data base has all of the actual data and will be used as the basis of my Y2K project a book which as yet has no name.... ANY SUGGESTIONS??

My first task will be to continue in my quest to find more and more Hermistons no matter how the name is spelled. Which currently is being researched as Hermiston, Hermeston, Hermistone, & Harmiston. However I just received an email from Nick Jackson in Western Australia who believes we are connected to the Herbertsons through the late 1700's union of Andrew Hermiston and Isabel Keddie... so who knows where all this will lead.

You can help with this portion by sending me leads, be they emails .. the best, phone numbers.. or snail mail addresses. Of course you will send all of these by email because Kay and I are "on the go" a lot and our kids aren't even sure where we are!!! It's great.

My second task will be to clean up the web site. I know I have many miscues as I developed the site... now that I have developed a better system I will add data and will correct current data in the family database on the web.

You can help a great deal by sending me emails to correct data problems.. I sure would appreciate that. Secondly there are many many (?)question marks in that data which need to be replaced. Keep in mind a date written as 1970's means I have all of the data but for freedom of information reasons I am unable to publish the data. However ?1970's? or ?1870? means I am guessing and I need input!

I am going to change the picture on the home page every two weeks so if you would like to see your ancestors in print send me either "flat" photo copies, ".gif" or ".jpg" files or actual pictures which I will scan into the comupter and return to you.

Finally I intend to start compiling "the" book. Of course I will start with my own family line so I can figure out how to included the lineage, the history and the great stories that I want my great grand children to know about our family.

You can help by forwarding anything... and I mean anything that you want included in this Y2K book. There are many many stories about our ancestors lets not lose them because we are too busy!

My prediction for what it is worth is that I will receive no more than 3 reponses to this newsletter and its requests.. Prove me wrong.. Please
