Hermiston Newsletter Volume 1 2000

Another year passes and Kay and I have had a rest from my geneology trek! I guess it started with no response from "Family Hermiston" people along the east coast of North America. As a result, we only stopped in Fredericton and Kingston on our way back to Parry Sound for the summer.

Again this fall we headed west to visit our daughter by way of Blue Grass Iowa and a "coffee stop" at John Louis and Charlene's lovely new house. Wow! have they ever done a nice job on their new digs.PS that is their mailbox on the home page

After a 10 day stay in Edmonton doing house "renos" we headed to Dawson Creek, BC where we had a lovely visit with Diane Shuman and her mom Joan (Hermiston) McClarty. They have undertaken their family tree and I am really looking forward to their version of a section of our heritage.

We then moved on to Williams Lake, BC to visit with Stanley & Janice Hermiston's family where we filled in some data re their recent grandchildren additions.

Our next stop was Blaine Washington just south of Vancouver where "we hung out" for a week. On daily visits to Vancouver we contacted another group of Hermistons which I had been unable to fit into the puzzle. Through phone conversations I was able to put their family together back to a Robert Hermiston whose son John Albert was born in Napanee in 1877. I'm still working on how they fit into our "gang".

We then moved on to Victoria and a lovely visit with Fredwin Hermiston who had served in the navy with my brother Ross in the 1940's. Boy it sure is a small world.

Then as we headed back to Edmonton for a suprise visit for daughter Sandra's one of those big "O" birthdays we visited in Vernon, BC with Audrey Larmon and picked up more data on the Hermistons. After a recovery day in Edmonton we headed for Salt Lake City and looked at some more census film finding a few more Hermistons which we have yet to fit into the puzzle. Our trip continued through the beautiful Canyon Lands of Utah and finally ended here in Florida on December 1st.

Again in the spring we will head up the east coast to try to make some contact with the "eastern chapters" of Family Hermiston.. but more about that later.

One thing we found out is that people want me to keep the web page up to date with respect to the family genealogy and I will try to do that. It is a big job because all of the actual data is kept in a genealogy database and then it is rewritten in html form to be put on the website. I also have to be careful not to publish birthdates of "living" Hermistons and that takes some extra time. I promise I will try to update data and send out emails when I have done so. Unfortunately it gets a little discouraging when I send out emails and find that several people have changed their email addresses and have not sent me a change. So the first thing I will do is correct the email list as soon as I get the returns from this email that show "not known.. therefore returned to sender". Your assistance with email addresses would be appreciated... it really is the best method of communication.

That's it for now and I have a lot of work ahead of me this winter.. it should be fun.
