The amazing memories demonstrated by some savants (e.g. Kim Peek) present an interesting challenge to "reconstruction" views of memory. Kim seems to have a photographic memory for whatever text his eyes fall upon. One explanation: "... these savants have come to rely on more primitive cortico-striatal (procedural or habit)
memory rather than higher level cortico-limbic (semantic or declarative)
