Paper Presented at ICCBR'05 Workshop

bulletTip member Chris Tighe presented work on using causal knowledge to guide case retrieval and adaptation at the Workshop on Similarities, Processes and Workflows. The workshop was held in conjunction with the International Conference on  Case-based Reasoning, Chicago, IL, Aug. 2005. 

Paper Accepted for SARA'2005

bulletTip members Zina Ibrahim and Ahmed Tawfik co-authored a paper describing the use of a qualitative spatiotemporal representation to abstract and describe the actions of rescue agents in an urban disaster situation. The paper has been accepted at the Symposium on Abstraction, Reformulation and Approximation.

TIP Delegation at RoboCup 2004

bulletTip members Zina Ibrahim, Dong Liang and Kevin Wu were part of the University of Windsor ARK team that participated in the RoboCup World Finals - Rescue Simulation League in Lisbon, Portugal. The team ranked 7th overall.

Equipment Update

bulletA telepresence Amigo Robot has been running around in the TIP lab and surrounding corridors and is being used in some research projects.

TIP Member defends M.Sc. Fall 2004

bulletMs. Zina Ibrahim has successfully defended her MSc Thesis on December  2, 2004. The thesis has the title  "Qualitative Spatio-temporal Representation and Reasoning for Vague Regions". 

Work on Chance Discovery to be presented at ICEIS 2005

bulletZhiwen Wu and Ahmed Tawfik will be presenting their work on knowledge based chance discovery at the 7th International Conference on Enterprise Information System in Miami, Florida.

 Mars Troopers are TIP Guests for a Year 

bulletThe Mars troopers (Aram Ali, Samson Chung, Jorge Ferreira, and Aji Prabowo) are this year's guests at the TIP lab. They are working on a senior year project investigating robotic exploration of Mars under the direction of Dr. Ahmed Tawfik.

Paper Accepted: Inductive Reasoning and Chance Discovery   

bulletA paper entitled "Inductive Reasoning and Chance Discovery" has recently appeared in Minds and Machines. The paper written by Dr. Tawfik establishes a link between temporal uniformity and chance discovery and calls for a Bayesian approach to chance discovery,

Equipment Update

bulletA Sun Blade 100 workstation has been added to the TIP lab.  The machine has been named Banff after Canada's first national park.  [Sept. 17, 2002]

Another Member Joins TIP Fall 2002

bulletZina  Ibrahim is the latest addition to  TIP this fall. She joins TIP as a graduate member after completing her B.Sc. in Computer Science and Software Engineering,  [Sept 9, 2002]

Work on Spatio-temporal Context Learning to Be Pesented at IEEE ISSPIT

bulletRecent results on using the spatio-temporal context in vehicle reidentiication will be presented at the coming meeting of IEEE ISSPIT. These results came out of the work of A. Peng and A. Tawfik this summer in collaboration with S. Tabib and B. Abdulhai from the University of Toronto Intelligent Transportation Research Center. [Sept. 8, 2002]

bulletMohammad Lutful Habib, Dong Liang and Zhiwen Wu has joined the TIP team as graduate students. More students members are expected to join TIP for the fall term.

Paper Accepted: Relevance of Information to Decision Making   

bulletThe recent study on the effect of time on information relevance to decision making will appear in the Proceedings of IEEE- SMC'02. The study by A. Tawfik and S. Khan presents an empirical upper bound for the relevance time of old information in dynamic decision networks. The meeting is sponsored by the IEEE
