OBJECTIVE OF THE
COURSE: To understand how the components of a digital computer work together logically.
The teaching, the
labs and the tests and quizzes will be carefully designed and implemented to
help achieve the objective. The instructor will make every possible effort
during the semester so that every one in the class may be able to develop a
full understanding of the working of the basic computer.
TEACHING ASSISTANCE: Students will have the opportunity to meet with the
instructor, the Lab Instructor and with Graduate / Teaching Assistants through
the following:
(The office hours and the venue for the G.A.s
will be announced on the web-site, after the G.A.s have been allocated, during
the second week. The students will be informed about the G.A. hours in one of
the lecture sessions.)
A Special Appeal to Every Student: As soon as
you feel, you have less than full understanding of any concept, discussed in
the lectures, laboratories or tutorials, please contact immediately for
teaching assistance.
REQUEST FOR
SUGGESTIONS: If you have any suggestions, regarding how the objective of the
course can be achieved better, please do not hesitate to give them personally
or through an e-mail to the instructor. The instructor will be thankful to
every one, who can give a suggestion, which can be implemented to improve the
academic processes.

Notes: 1.
Every student is to work with complete academic honesty in all exams,
assignments and the totality of the learning process.
2.In
case a student misses any one of the
Midterm1 or the Midterm2 with VALID REASONS, the final exam
weightage may be increased accordingly. However if a student were to miss
both the mid-terms, for the second, no consideration will be given.
Similarly
if a student misses any one of the quizzes with VALID REASONS, the weightage for the remaining quiz(zes)
may be increased accordingly. However if a student were to miss more than one
of the quizzes, for the other missed quizzes, no consideration will be given.
The
valid reason must be provided before or immediately after the missed exam, with
supporting documentation. (e.g. a Doctor's
note, which MUST state explicitly that the student was unfit to take the exam
on that day.) Without proper documentation, no credit will be given for the
missed exam.
3.A student, who
wishes to appeal the evaluation, should wait until she/he has received her/his
final grade at the end of the semester. Then she/he should follow the
procedure outlined in the University Calendar for the appeal of that grade.
No remarking of class tests or the final exam will be
undertaken unless a formal grade appeal is submitted at the end of the
semester, after the student has received the final grade for the course.
Numerical errors in
adding part marks on class tests and the final exam will be corrected when
identified.
4.
All exams ( quizzes, mid-terms or final exam) will be
closed – book and closed –notes.
5.
In order to get credit for a lab, a student must attend a
lab, he must sign the attendance sheet at each lab
and he must hand his lab sheet at the end of each lab.
If a student misses a lab, he will not get credit for it,
unless he has a valid reason and supporting documentation
and he submits the documentation within seven days of his missing the lab.
6.
Quizzes may be given in a lab or in a lecture session. Individual Assignments,
to be returned in the very next scheduled lecture hour, may be given in the
class. These may be given on any day in the lab or in the class. Late arrivals
or absentees would lose the credit for the quiz. Quiz days may not be pre-announced.
8. Student Evaluation of Teaching: At the
start of the class on a day, during the last couple of weeks of the semester,
the students will be asked to evaluate the teaching of the subject. This is to
be used as a feedback for improving the teaching process.
9. The
University regulations do not allow students to take a course for the third
time.
Students who fail to pass a CS major course after two attempts should
be aware that they need to get permission from the Dean's office
to take the course for the third time.
Students who do not get this permission
are likely to be asked to withdraw from the course.
The Senate regulation is given below
REPETITION OF COURSES
Any failed or passed course may be repeated only once. Students
who have twice failed any course which is required for graduation in a
particular area of study must withdraw from that program. In the Faculty of
Engineering passed courses may be repeated only in the final year of study as
may be allowed by the Faculty.
10. Every
student must register in one of the Laboratory Sections. This semester, there
are two Lab Sections for 03-60-265:
Lab
