Technique | TEMPERATURE RANGE ,(/,)/,( |
Principle | The ability of a microbe to grow at 10, 20-25 (RT),30,37,45 and 56 C is easily measured in the laboratory with adjustable water baths and incubators. The temperature range for growth and the optimal temperature are characteristic of different groups of bacteria (eg steptococci). Some species such as Neiserria gonorrhoeae have a narrow temperature range and rapidly die outside that range. Biochemical tests are usually performed at the optimal temperature for growth although this may not be the optimal temperature for product formation. For example acetyl methylcarbionol is sometimes best produced at a suboptimal temperature for growth (see Voges Proskauer) |
