Technique BACITRACIN
,(/,)/,(
Principle Group A streptococci are inhibited by low concentrations of bacitracin in paper discs on blood agar. Bacitracin at concentrations of 0.02 to 0.04 units creates a zone of inhibition of 10 mm or greater. Six per cent of group B and 7.5 per cent of Groups C and G beta hemolytic streptococci are also bacitracin sensistive. The mechanism of the effect of bacitracin on bacterial growth is based on the inhibition by this antibiotic of one of the steps in bacterial cell wall synthesis.
