| Principle | The arylsulfatase test is used for identification of Mycobacteria, particularly M. fortuitum and M. chelonei, which may produce sufficient arylsulfatase to give a positive reaction within 3 days. The enzyme arylsulfatase converts phenolphthalein disulfate (colourless) to free phenolphthalein (red at alkaline pH). |
