Technique | AESCULIN HYDROLYSIS ,(/,)/,( |
Principle | Aesculin is a glycoside that is hydrolysed by some species of streptococci and a few other groups. The aesculin is incorporated into a nutrient base with a ferric salt. Hydrolysis is indicated by a brown coloration due to the reaction of aglycone (6:7-dihyroxycourmarin) with the iron. Alternatively, the use of the glucose portion of the molecule can be detected by acid or acid and gas production. |
