Gus Nossal

Dr. G.J. V. Nossal is an eminent Australian immunologist whose studies have focused on the events occurring in lymph nodes following administration of antigens. Thus he demonstrated that antigen was either trapped on macrophages or on the surface of dendrtic cells. He showed that this antigen, when appropriately presented, caused some lymphocytes to progressively develop into plasma cells. He was also the first to formally demonstrate the one cell-one antibody rule ( that each antibody producing cell produces antibody of a single specificity.
