Overview

The Content Viewer tool contains the same material as your Resources tool but provides a friendlier interface. You may post material through the Content Viewer tool or the Resources tool. If you add material to Resources, it will also be in Content Viewer; if you add material to Content Viewer, it will also be in Resources.

Important: If you use "Content Viewer", most likely students will not be able to see or access the "Resources" tool. Students will access all your resources through "Content Viewer".

If you have previous material migrated from a ViCKi kit(University of Windsor's previous Learning Management System), you will need to use the "Content Viewer" for your resources.

Content Viewer is not available for you to add or remove from your site using the Site EditorEdit Tools option but it can still be added and removed from your site by request by emailing email to clew@uwindsor.ca. Please be sure to include the course number.

Get Started with the Content Viewer Tool

In the course site left-hand menu, click Content Viewer. You will see your resources in "Content Viewer" interface.

Navigating Course Content

You may edit, delete, rearrange, or hide from student view any of the folders or files in your Content Viewer.

You may add (upload) a file, add a link to a website, create an HTML document within CLEW (type right into the course web page), or add an empty folder to help organize your uploaded files and content.

  1. You may add a new item to the main course (root) folder (the one you see on the Content Viewer home page) or you may choose to add an item to an exiting sub-folder. To add an item to a sub-folder, open the folder by clicking on it.
  2. Click Add a new item at the bottom of the page. You will be presented with a choice of items to add.

Considerations

  1. The Content Viewer tool does not have the following features:
    • ability to move a file from one folder to another (use Resources tool to do that)
    • append a Copyright statement to a document (type the copyright statement right into your document or in the description of the document)
    • e-mail notification (use Announcements where necessary)
    • create or upload more than one item at a time.
  1. If you have used the Resources tool to upload material and it does not appear in your Content Viewer, click the tool’s refresh button near the top right of your screen.
