Strategic Mission for Afro Fest
To make the University of Windsor the home for African Heritage Month celebrations for the city of Windsor.The African Diaspora Festival (Afro Fest) is the University of Windsor's week long celebration of African Heritage Month. The festival is a culmination of cultural and educational activities that document and celebrate the many contributions made by peoples of African descent to the world.
The African Diaspora Festival (Afro Fest) is a week-long celebration that commemorates the rich histories of Africa and the African Diaspora and the contributions of its peoples. February 2010, marks the festivals fifth anniversary which will take place during the week of February 1st- 7th, 2010. Afro Fest was first created and executed in 2006 by Odette School of Business student Camesha Cox. The week began with the International African Inventors Museum and in addition to hosting a series of seminars, guest speakers and documentary screenings it also included a number of dance, drumming and theatre presentations. In its first year Afro Fest was featured on the A Channel, CBC radio and television and was recognized in print by The Lance, the Scoop and the Windsor Star. Today, Afro Fest is one of Windsor's most highly anticipated events in celebrating African Heritage.
